Contribution of Social Media to Social and Human Development: Case of Twitter

Focus of this seminar was the contribution of social media to social development. Emine Etili, who is responsible for Public Policy for Turkey at Twitter, was invited as the guest speaker to give a speech about the impact of social media on human development. Her responsibilities include engagement with the Turkish government and regulators on relevant policy issues as well as Turkish civil society and business community. The seminar was open to all of the Boğaziçi University students as well as the academic staff. The crucial role of social media was discussed particularly from the perspective of social and human development by taking the example of Twitter. Emine Etili lectured on how innovation and new technologies combined with social media can contribute to the realization of the global development. The seminar was held in English and there were approximately 60 participants who were benefited from this topical event.
